music piracy... is stealing more than just music, it's stealing hopes and dreams
I cried watching "empire"... yea...
Terrence Howard's character says: "I started selling drugs when I was 9 years old, in philadelphia, I did it to feed myself. But it was the music that played in my head that kept me alive when I thought I was going to get shot. And it was the melodies I dreamt about that kept me warm when I was sleeping in the streets...you see? music saved my life. Times have changed though, the internet has destroyed the musicians ability to make money, because our work, is downloaded for free online. Now it's impossible for the disenfranchised kids growing up in the projects to overcome poverty the way that I did"

I wanted to stand up and cheer, but people would look at me weird... set there, turn that over in your mind... sure getting free music might not hurt those super famous, already signed and set "rock/rap/pop stars" you see on tv.., the ones with mansions, the ones you think represent musicians all across the board... think about that, think about where even those ones came from... Eminem was living in a trailer park with his mom on drugs, as a teen caring for his little brother all alone, cps came and got his little brother repeatedly... and would bring him back... and then he had a little girl... one who didn't ask to be born in a sad situation... and a niece, who's dad had committed suicide... Marshall took in his niece as well... now all 6 of the people (him, the 2 girls, his ex, his brother, his mom) all have a better life, because of his talent...instead of those two little girls growing up in the ghetto and possibly getting on drugs or killed... they have a chance, maybe you don't want them to be rich because, you're not, so why is it fair for them to be?... but do you really think it's better to put an abrupt stop to any person, child or family that have the slightest chance to escape poverty or even abuse using the talent that God gave them? I know you don't "owe" them... but they are working to produce a product for you to enjoy, that you want to enjoy... 99 cents a song, that's all you have to pay to show the world we are willing to pay, and that talent and hard work has value, and that artists and the people they hire DO NOT deserve to be treated like slaves... they don't want you to make them rich... they just don't want their hard work (it is hard) stolen to the point that they can't survive, and if the artists can't survive, think about all the people they hire... the ones you don't even hear about... songwriters, makeup artists, lighting technicians, producers, camera men for videos, directors, stage hands... all those people can't get jobs if the artists can't afford to hire them ... you can't pay 99 cents a song, a song that you love, that moves you to dance, or to tears, or it reminds you of a loved one that has passed away... that is the only career that can reach into your heart and make you feel the way that music or any art does... and thousands of people will go without jobs because everyone has the same mentality... they don't need money, well that's because the people that are famous already, are on the line that we could be crossing, they already do get paid... because music isn't entirely free... but if the trend continues, no new artist that you haven't heard of yet, that are living in cars (kesha literally lived in her car for 6 months up until she got famous) if they can't make money with music, they will have to get a "real" job... and maybe you're okay with that idk... but don't complain about the music on the radio when it's all autotuned industry prostitutes that suck, because we did this to them... real musicians can't live their dream, if you don't want to pay them, you don't get to enjoy their art, either way... you don't want to pay now, it won't even be available later, because they won't be able to afford to be what you want them to, for free... that's not greed, that's just simply impossible
fyi... I bought that episode of empire off youtube for $2 just to get that clip... it was worth it
