our goal as Christians
What should be our main goal as
Christians?
We are to go to church to get
closer to God, so that we can be changed, we don't go simply to be entertained.
I personally find most church services to be fulfilling, I do enjoy myself
while there... however, I feel like "entertainment" is too shallow
and flippant a word to use for it but I feel like that’s what some are going to
get.
And some Sundays days I'm sleepy
in morning service because I'm human, but I go to be faithful, and because I
NEED too. We NEED to learn, we can't learn enough about God, we can't get close
enough...But in today’s society you do hear a lot of complaining, that “old
fashioned” churches don’t do enough “fun” things. That they don’t get up and
shout and dance enough, there isn’t enough going on. People complain that
although they go all the time, they still don’t have money or good health. Or
that they got something from God but haven’t had a “yes” answer again and I’ll
refer you to something Jesus said,
26 Jesus answered them and said,
Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles,
but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled. 27 Labour not for the
meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life,
which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. –John
6:26-27
Is not getting the extreme gift
of hearing the Word of the One True God not enough?
While I am definitely not against
praising God in any way that He leads someone to, I think that some of the time
the reason for people’s wanting more of this is skewed from the original plan.
Why does God want us to gather
together in fellowship and go to church, what is the main purpose of what we
are to accomplish on this earth as believers?
Well for one we need
encouragement from one another and we need to hear from God, that’s what the
preacher does, tells us what God wants us to know.
Sometimes that message does cause
people to shout and get excited, but the main thing it needs to do is change
people’s behavior outside of the service, because our main goal on this earth
is to get as many people as possible to know Jesus as their personal Savior
If you shout and praise even for
five hours straight every Sunday and Wednesday but then go out into society and
don’t do anything or act in a way that represents who Jesus truly is, then what
purpose does it serve?
So if we want to praise God
because He deserves it, and HE ALWAYS does, I’m all for it, but we can’t just
expect every service to be loud and emotionally thrilling simply because we
don’t want to be “bored”… it’s in our quiet sometimes that God speaks the
loudest to us.
And we can’t just focus on what
we want it to be like, we have to realize that it’s God’s church, we
(Christians) are the church ALL the time, and if God wants us to keep quiet at
times, then we should… He’s helped me to not say stuff sometimes, when it was
my emotions that wanted to say things instead of His directed words. We can’t
get those confused.
Going to church is for us to get
closer to God, in any way that He sees fit for us, we are to learn what He
wants us to do in any given situation, and His main goal should be our main
goal, not that we be known as the best Christian or the loudest or the most
“holy person” or to have the most “entertaining” service but so that we can go
out and get others to know Jesus Christ as their personal Savior, God’s goal is
based on His love for all people and our motive should also be love for all
people and our goal should be to make sure as many people get to heaven as
possible.
